Milford CT Tax Reminder: 1/1/24 Taxes due by 2/1/24

Notice to City of Milford, CT Taxpayers:

The upcoming tax bills for Real Estate, Motor Vehicle, Personal Property Taxes and Sewer Use Fees were originally mailed on June 20, 2023. This mailing contained the 7/1/23 and 1/1/24 bill installments.

The supplemental motor vehicle tax bills were mailed on December 21, 2023, and are due January 1, 2024, delinquent after February 1, 2024. The supplemental motor vehicle bill is an interim tax bill covering a vehicle registered between October 2 and July 31, added to the Grand List.

The January 1, 2024, tax installment (based upon the October 1, 2022, Grand List-Assessment Date) is due by February 1, 2024. You have until February 1, 2024, to pay without penalty. The payment must be received by the Tax Collector's Office or USPS/UPS/FedEx postmarked by February 1, 2024, to be considered timely. This applies to real estate tax, sewer use fee, motor vehicle tax, supplemental motor vehicle tax and personal property tax.

If you have already paid your current taxes, please disregard this notice. This is a courtesy reminder to people who have signed up for the email notification list. If you wish to be removed from the list, please follow the instructions at the bottom of the notice.

Anyone who purchased property since the October 1, 2022 Grand List or has recently paid off a mortgage and does not have a tax bill, should contact the Tax Collector’s Office at 203-783-3217 so that a bill can be sent, or retrieve the bill online at www.ci.milford.ct.us/tax-collector.

Late Payments & Interest Charges: Under Connecticut General Statute, failure to receive a bill does not exempt the taxpayer from payment of all taxes, interest charges, and collections costs/fees. Interest is charged on all late payments by statute, no exceptions. If the installment is not paid on or before February 1, 2024, it is subject to interest at the statutory rate of 1.5 percent per month, calculated from January 1, 2024, or a $2.00 minimum, whichever is more.

ONLINE:           Visit www.ci.milford.ct.us/tax-collector and select “view and pay tax bills.” Service fees apply.

PHONE:           Through secure provider Point & Pay at 877-495-2729. 8am-11pm EST. Service fees apply.

MAIL:               Make check payable to “Milford Tax Collector” and mail the correct bill coupon with payment to: Milford Tax Collector, P.O. Box 3025, Milford, CT 06460. To be on time, payment must be received, or USPS postmarked by February 1, 2024. If a receipt is required, include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

DROP BOX:      Do NOT deposit cash payments. Interior drop box available during business hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, except holidays. Exterior drop box is available 24/7 and is located outside the Parsons Government Building on the sidewalk near the entrance to the Tax Office. Payments are date stamped, secured, and processed as time allows. No guarantee of same day processing. Considered timely according to date stamp. Payments submitted during non-business hours will be received when the office reopens. Please ensure payment is submitted by 4:30pm February 1, 2023, or payment will be considered late.


Advance Payment Notice/Additional Bill Information: If you are paying your bill in advance of the January 1, 2024, due date, the add to cart button may not be available on the displayed results. Find the current assessment year 2022-line item and select the "view" button, which looks like a magnifying glass icon Magnifying Glass Icon to open the bill and make advance payment. This view will also let you see additional billing information such as assessed value, benefits, exemptions, due dates, etc. 


Resident Parking Sticker Information: Current DMV vehicle registration is required to be presented to request your sticker.  Additional information may be required if your vehicle is not registered in Milford. Motor Vehicle Information: The July 1, 2023 (first half) and January 1, 2024 (second half-if applicable) motor vehicle tax bills reflect vehicle ownership as of the Grand List date 10/1/2022. The bill covers the time of 10/1/2022-9/30/2023.

The supplemental motor vehicle bill is an interim tax bill covering a vehicle registered between October 2 and July 31. If plate(s) were transferred from original vehicle to the new vehicle, a credit will appear on the bill. All prior billed taxes on the credit vehicle must be paid in full.

If you have CANCELED your vehicle license plate and NO LONGER OWN the vehicle, kindly notify the ASSESSOR 203-783-3215. The Assessor will require documented proof and determine if your vehicle is eligible for reassessment. Then, the Tax Collector will recalculate your bill based on the new assessment. The bill is STILL DUE by February 1, 2024. (or you can pay your original bill, and if you are eligible for an adjustment at a later date, then you could be eligible for a refund).
