Milford Fire Marshal Division – Inspector Impersonator

Once again, there has been a theft within the city where an individual has identified themselves as an Inspector with the Milford Fire Department to perform an Inspection of a premises. This individual has now targeted single family homes. The individual has produced handwritten invoice(s) to the homeowners, performed an “Inspection” within five (5) minutes, then informed the homeowners that the cost of the Inspection was to be paid in cash at that time, and that they will return to perform the necessary repair/corrections they have cited. It is unknown to this office whether the homeowners have paid this individual or not.

This office wants to reaffirm again to the citizens of Milford that the department/division does not sub-contract anyone/any company to perform Inspections of other businesses. The Fire Marshal Division does not have jurisdiction over 1 or 2 Family Dwellings. Should any individual approach your business or your home without having scheduled an Inspection first, and then produced an invoice that is to be paid in person/on site, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY! Then have the police department follow up with this office for confirmation.
