City Ordinance for Fire Alarm Systems

General

The City of Milford requires all Fire Alarm Systems to be installed and maintained in full compliance with the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code, NFPA 72, and the City Code of Ordinances.

All new systems, and modifications to existing systems, shall require review and approval from the Fire Marshal prior to installation.  Construction documents (plans) shall be submitted in sufficient detail so as to illustrate compliance with the applicable codes and standards.

Maintenance

All fire alarm systems shall be inspected and tested in accordance with NFPA 72, at least once per year.  A record of the inspection and testing shall be kept on premise at all times and shall be made available to the fire code official, upon request.

Enforcement

In accordance with Section 2.5-10 of the City of Milford Code of Ordinances, penalties shall be enforced for false activations of fire alarm systems.  The schedule of fines is listed below:

4th false alarm = $50 fine

5th false alarm = $75 fine

6th false alarm (and any subsequent) = $90

Penalties for false alarms are based on occurrences in any one calendar year.

Annual inspection and testing of the fire alarm system greatly reduces the likeliness of false system operation.
