Tree City USA

Milford gained national recognition for our commitment to environmental stewardship by being awarded as a Tree City community! The Tree City program was established in 1976 by the Arbor Day Foundation to celebrate towns and cities committed to protecting and expanding the number of public trees. This program has helped more than 3,600 communities across the country expand their urban forests. You can learn more about the program on their website.

To qualify as a Tree City community, Milford meets four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day. For the past two years, Milford has held an Earth Day Arbor Day Tree Giveaway where over 1000 trees have been given to residents to plant in their yards. These native trees started at heights from 3 feet to 8 feet tall!

Meadowside Tree PlantingThe benefits trees provide are widely known and well established. They provide shade in the increasingly hot summers, clean our air, increase property value, and are essential for animals. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the second-best time to plant a tree is now. Learn more about the benefits of trees and how to properly plant a tree on the Arbor Day Foundation website.
