February 2015 Newsletter

Welcome to the Milford Public Library!

It may be freezing outside, but that hasn't stopped the Library! Our program calendar is booked full  with movies, book discussions, lectures and entertainment.  One special event going on next month is a concert featuring the popular Irish balladeers, The Kerry Boys. Join us on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00,  as we all get our Irish on!  As with most of our programs, this special concert is funded by our treasured volunteers, the Friends of the Milford Library. The Friends are working on numerous projects, such as our lobby book sale, constructing Little Libraries at the train station and other locales, establishing book awards at our local high schools, and much more!  You can read about all they are doing in their Winter newsletter or on their webpage.  We are also excited to announce that it is now easier than ever to join the Friends; simply go to their webpage where you can fill out the membership form online and pay securely using your credit/debit card or PayPal account.

Another exciting event next month is the launch party for our first ever community reads program, One City, One Story.   The Library, the Milford Schools and the local business community have joined together in this initiative which encourages all residents, preschool to seniors, to read specific books linked by a common theme, in the hopes of encouraging dialogue and fostering a greater sense of community.  For this inaugural year, we have chosen two titles, Wonder by R.J. Palacio and The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig.  Both titles promote the themes of acceptance, kindness and compassion; perfect reads for our Small City with a Big Heart. Most of the community programming will take place in late April and May - be sure to check the One City One Story webpage or Facebook page often for updated program information. #ChooseKindMilford

As I mentioned last month, we are expanding our reach in the world of social networking. We are now active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. So, however you like to keep informed on what’s going on at the library and in the community, we have the answer.  Please take a minute to friend, follow, and connect with us!

As always, if there is something you would like to see at your library, please let us know.   You can email me, cangeli@ci.milford.ct.us, or leave your comments in the suggestion boxes located within the library.

Don't Miss Out...

Please Note:

Many of our online resources do require you to have a Milford Public Library card for access. If you are a  Milford resident and don't yet have one, please stop by the Library to get started.
