Minute with the Mayor - Party in the Stacks 2018
Friends of the Milford Library is hosting their 3rd annual Party in the Stacks. The Party will be held on Saturday, October 20th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the Milford Public Library. The theme this year is “The Legends of Charles Island”, a celebration of pirates, shipwrecks, mermaids and other seafaring literature. The Silent Auction Committee has done extremely well in procuring prizes for the silent auction. Featured items include an African safari, a sailboat and a submarine. A popular item is the African Safari package for Two(or Four) - the trip includes a six night stay at Zulu Nyala Heritage Safari Lodge/Tented Camp with three meals per day and two game viewing activities per day on the Zulu Nyala Game Reserve. The services of an experienced ranger will be available to assist in planning your activities during your stay. Excludes airfare, transfers, laundry, drinks and extra activities and tours.
Another featured item is a brand new 14’ Sunfish Sailboat. This boat provides automatic gust control while providing enough canvas to harness the winds. Beginners will appreciate the boat’s mainsheet –only sail control set up, while experts can always learn more about body positioning, balance and light touch steering. This is great for both beginner and advanced sailors, kids and adults.
A vintage painted and decorated styrofoam submarine created in the 1990s by artist Bill Meddick is also up for bid. A part of Milford Fine Arts fundraising projects it was the subject of a bidding war in Milford. The submarines were created due to the heritage of Simon Lake and his early work on submarines.
Other items include artwork, theater tickets and dining excursions including Stonebridge Restaurant in Milford. Opportunities to visit a CT museum and other sites. A favorite is the fire truck ride and a day with the Mayor.
