Outdoor Cooking Appliances

Effective May 7, 2015, the Connecticut State Fire Prevention Code prohibits the use of outdoor cooking appliances within 10 feet of any multi-family residential occupancy.

The Fire Prevention Code also prohibits outdoor cooking appliances on any balcony or under any overhanging portion of the building.

Please note that this code does NOT apply to any single- or two-family residential occupancy.  For outdoor cooking appliance safety in single- and two-family homes, a minimum clearance of 3 feet to combustible materials should always be maintained and always follow the appliance manufacturer's safety guidelines.
