Getting Married in Milford?

Congratulations!

General Information:

  • Congratulations! Our office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments scheduled in advance are required.
  • We only issue licenses for marriage ceremonies taking place in the city of Milford.
  • Getting married in Milford is a 2 step process:
  1. Obtain the marriage license from this office;
  2. Arrange the ceremony on your own with a Justice of the Peace, a clergy member or person authorized to legally perform a marriage ceremony in Connecticut.  Click here for a list of Milford's Justices of the Peace. 
  • Marriage licenses must be applied for in person by both parties. Both parties must present a form of a valid photo identification and provide social security information. 
  • Please remember to provide the date of your ceremony and the name and contact information of the person officiating your ceremony.
  • Please submit your completed worksheet before calling our office to schedule an appointment. See below.
  • The license is good for 65 days from the date of issuance.
  • The fee is $70 ($50.00 license and $20 for certified copy) payable by cash, check, money order or credit card (please note there is an additional credit card fee of $1.75) 

2 Ways to Complete the Marriage License Application

IMPORTANT WORKSHEET INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Do not include social security information on the worksheet. We will obtain that at a later time.
  • Provide full names including middle names (no initials) for both applicants and parents if applicable.
  • For the education section, please provide number of years at each level.

Who is Eligible to Perform Marriages in Connecticut?

  • Judges and retired judges, including federal judges and judges of other states;
  • Family support magistrates, family support referees, state referees and justices of the peace who are appointed in Connecticut; and
  • Ordained or licensed members of the clergy, including persons who have been ordained through online ministries and who are given the authority to officiate marriages through such ministries.
