Distribution of COVID-19 At-Home Rapid Test Kits
City of Milford Continues to Provide Access to COVID-19 At-Home Rapid Test Kits to Vulnerable Populations
Recently the City of Milford provided some area groups and organizations a limited supply of COVID-19 At-Home Rapid Test Kits targeted towards vulnerable populations and homebound Milford residents.
In order to continue to make Milford’s limited allocation accessible to our most vulnerable residents, the City of Milford will be providing additional test kits to these organizations. As the number of kits that are available is limited at this time, the test kits are intended for Milford residents who may be experiencing symptoms and/or had a recent exposure to an individual who is positive for COVID-19 in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Older adults in Milford and/or Meals on Wheels participants in need of a COVID-19 at-home rapid test kit due to symptoms and/or had a recent exposure can contact the Milford Senior Center by calling 203-877-5131.
COVID-19 at-home rapid test kits have also been provided to the Milford Redevelopment & Housing Partnership, Sara Nor, and River Park Apartments. If you reside in any of these properties and have not received a test kit to date, contact your Property Manager to obtain a kit.
Additionally, the City of Milford will be providing a limited allocation of at home test kits and N95 masks to local faith-based organizations as well.
Individuals who are homebound and unable to receive a kit through any of the above organizations may call the Milford Department of Public Works PPE Office at 203-783-3265 to request an at home test kit.
Residents who would like to obtain an N95 mask can obtain up to three (3) masks at the Milford Public Library when the library is open.
Given the highly infectious nature of the Omicron variant and the significant number of COVID-19 cases locally, it is most important to get vaccinated if you haven’t been vaccinated, get a booster if you are eligible, wear a mask both in public spaces and when interacting in close contact with individuals outside of your household, and stay home if you are sick.

COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kit Shelf-Life Extension
The State of Connecticut distributed millions of at-home COVID-19 antigen rapid test kits in early 2022 to municipalities, schools, faith-based organizations, non-profits, and healthcare facilities to allow for convenient, rapid self-testing during the Omicron variant surge. Several
products were distributed by the State of Connecticut, including the following brands: iHealth, QuickVue, BinaxNow, Flowflex, and On/Go. The Connecticut Department of Public Health(DPH) continues to provide K-12 schools with iHealth test kits.
The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted a three-month extension for the iHealth COVID-19 antigen rapid test. That FDA authorization extended the shelf-life of all iHealth tests with expiration dates on or before 2022-09-29 for an additional three months. For example, if the expiration date printed on your box is 2022-07-21, the updated expiration date is 2022-10-20.

Homebound and More
The Milford Health Department is working with area groups and organizations to ensure that vulnerable populations and homebound residents have access to test kits. The Meals on Wheels program have received an allotment of test kits earmarked for their homebound clients. Each MOW client will receive one test kit.
Postive test results
Per the CDC recommendations, if your self-test yields a positive result, please stay home or isolate and wear a mask (find information on mask here). There is no need to obtain a follow up PCR test. Given the highly infectious nature of the Omicron variant and the increase in cases locally, it is most important to get vaccinated if you haven’t been vaccinated, get a booster if you are eligible, wear a mask both in public spaces and when interacting in close contact with individuals outside of your household, and stay home if you are sick.
