Administrative / Records Division

The Administrative Division consists of the Records Division, Traffic Division, Fleet Maintenance, Evidence and Licensing.

The Division is staffed by sworn officers, as well as civilian employees and is under the command of the Deputy Chief of Administration and supervised by two Lieutenants.

The Deputy Chief of Administration is responsible for managing Internal Affairs investigations, overseeing and facilitating the operations of the Records Division, Traffic Division, Recruitment and candidate testing.

The Administrative Lieutenants are responsible for assisting the Captain in conducting Internal Affairs investigations; maintaining the department’s computer systems; grant writing and the direct supervision of Records Division and Traffic Division personnel.

Records Division personnel are responsible for collecting and filing all the reports created by all of the divisions within the Department.  In addition, they are also responsible for collecting and maintaining Uniform Crime Report data and fielding Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.

The Administrative Division is also responsible for the safe storage of all evidence, including all recovered or found property. Every summer, the department auctions any unclaimed property.  Proceeds from the auction go into a special fund to assist sick or injured police officers and their families.  All items are sold as-is to the highest bidder and are available for inspection at the start of the auction.

The Licensing Bureau is responsible for issuing a wide variety of permits, including applications for gun permits and special events ranging from fund raising to street vending. The division also provides fingerprinting services to new job applicants and permittee applicants.

The Traffic Division is responsible for investigating serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents and directed enforcement. The division also reviews Planning and Zoning applications as they pertain to traffic issues and make recommendations to the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners on a variety of traffic related concerns such as the placement of fire lanes, no parking zones, parking time limitations, stop sign and speed control
