July 2014 Newsletter

Welcome to the Milford Public Library!

Happy July!

This is the time that thoughts turn to lazy days at the beach, barbecues and time to get caught up on all your reading!   If you thought library summer reading programs were just for kids, you’re wrong!  The Library is offering two separate summer reading programs, one for children entering grades K-5, and the second for those in Grades 6 and up – including adults.

The children’s program (grades K-5) is called Fizz Boom Read!  Readers keep track of what they read, either on a paper reading log (available at the library) or now they can keep track online! Click on the following link to get started: http://ct.evanced.info/milfordlibrary/sr/homepage.asp . Read what you like and earn the opportunity to win all kinds of great weekly prizes.  Keeping with the theme, many of the Children’s programs are science based and include such performances as Little Scientists: Magical Magnetism, Lego Build-a-thons, Bending Gravity, Animal Embassy (real animals!) and more!  We will have a special author visit by John-Manual Andriote, recounting the true story of Wilhelmina, the runaway Milford cow and a special crafts program where participants make their own I Spy creations!  Contact the Children’s Department (203-783-3312) for more information.

But kids don’t have all the fun!  Our Grade 6 and up program (remember, it includes adults too!) is called Spark a Reaction.  Once you are registered at the Library , you simply read whatever you like and earn the chance to win all kinds of great prizes donated by local businesses such as The Milford Bank,  Colony Grill, The Canvas Patch, Scratch Baking and Duck Duck Goose.  All participants will be entered into the grand prize drawing to win one of two Kindle HD tablets!

Our summer programs are generously funded by the Friends of the Milford Library. For information on how to volunteer, visit the Friends of the Milford Library page on our website. Remember, all support to the library, whether financial or of your time, is a gift to your community. Please get involved.

Don't Miss Out...

Please Note:

Many of our online resources do require you to have a Milford Public Library card for access. If you are a  Milford resident and don't yet have one, please stop by the Library to get started.
