Economic Development Commission takes on the Harbor

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) kicked off the new year with a strategic plan incorporating business retention, marketing and our beautiful harbor.  The EDC added the harbor as an economic development priority along with downtown development, tourism and other long-standing committee reports.  The committee will also host meet and greets with new businesses, and is looking to host a new annual event.

A new Chairman will serve in the 2017 role, Michael Lynch, Esq., with Greg Harla serving as Vice Chairman.  The commission welcomed new member Jennifer Clinton.  Jennifer comes from a background in coastal management and environmental planning.  Her knowledge and expertise will be a real asset moving forward. Commissioners Clinton and Ferrante along with Vice Chair Harla will be sitting down with Ray Swift, Harbor Director, to see how the commission can assist this unique asset.  Vice Chairman Harla, said “Milford has one of the only city owned transient marinas along the sound, this is an asset we need to pay more attention to and I look forward to working with everyone to continue to get the word out about the marina.”

The commission launched the newly created quarterly Economic Development Roundtable.  The roundtable will have its third meeting in February.  This roundtable was created to meet with all related economic development organizations in the City on a quarterly basis to share ideas, help promote and update each organization on new developments.  “We have already seen great interactions and actionable items come to fruition with this group,” said Julie Nash Economic Development Director.

Chairman Lynch stated, “this will be an important year for our commission.  We have a great mix of expertise on the EDC, that, along with our plans and relations with other organizations, we will strive to continue to build upon Milford’s image as an inviting and business-friendly community.”

The commission welcomes and encourages new business visits.  We will highlight these visits through social media channels as well.  If interested in visiting please reach out to Julie Nash, Economic and Community Development Director at 203-783-3230 or jnash@ci.milford.ct.us.
