CHILD CAR SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM

Who will the Department perform child car safety seat inspections or installations for?

Any Milford or Orange resident can have their child car safety seat inspected or installed  by a fully trained Milford Police Officer

When are child car safety seat inspections or installations done?

Child car safety seat inspections or installations are only done once a month by appointment only. Please contact 203-874-2366 to schedule an appointment.
The child seat must be assembled and the owner / operator of the vehicle should have made an attempt to install the seat.

How do I register my alarm?

Is there a fee to register my alarm system?
There is no fee to register your alarm.
All alarm systems are required to be registered in accordance with the City of Milford Ordinance.

How many false alarms can I have before being fined?
Each alarmed premise is allowed three (3) false alarms per calendar year (January 1st - December 31st)

What happens after I exceed the maximum allowable alarms?
After responding to three (3) false alarms a warning letter is sent to the alarmed address requiring the person responsible to contact their alarm company and have the alarm inspected and the problem corrected. If the problem is user error, training on system use is recommended. The alarm company or property representative is then required to respond in writing to the Chief of Police.

How much will I be charged for a false alarm after that?
Fourth false alarm:  $50
Fifth false alarm:     $75
Sixth false alarm:    $90
Any alarm thereafter in one calendar year: $90


What Is The Business Locator File?

The Milford Police Department, Crime Prevention Unit, offers a unique service to local merchants, companies, and professional businesses, which increases their security beyond the norm.

A business locator file, which is maintained in the police computer, has been in operation for several years for the benefit of local businesses.  This file provides information that enables the police to contact a key holder in case of emergency after their normal business hours.  Hundreds of establishments are already included, and the Crime Prevention Unit suggests that those businesses which are not currently included to take advantage of this service.

If you are a new participant or merely wish to update information already submitted, forward your organization’s name, address, telephone number, the names of up to three key holders (in the order to be called) with home telephone numbers, and any other data (such as the person’s pager or cell phone number) that will help police should an incident occur.

It is most important, however, that the information in this file remain up-to-date.  When telephone numbers, key holder or any other security data is changed, the Crime Prevention Unit must be made aware of the change in writing.

How can I arrange to have an officer come speak to my group?
The request must be sent to the Chief of Police in writing for approval.
Include in your letter the date, time, place, number of people in your group, their age where appropriate (i.e. for children) and the topic you would like the officer to speak about.
