CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY



The Purpose;
The Milford Police Department is sponsoring the Citizens Police Academy in order to provide information to the citizens that attend so that they may make informed judgments about the police department and police activity. It is further hoped that the instruction will increase police awareness and increase police community rapport through this educational process. In return, the department will learn and become more aware of the concerns of the community from the participant’s interaction and input.

What is it?
The Milford Police Citizens Police Academy is a 30 hour block of information &  instruction designed to provide the public knowledge and understanding of the Milford Police Department’s personnel and policies and practices. It consists of a series of classes, held for 2 1/2 hours once a week for 12 weeks.  The instruction is comprehensive, covering different areas of the police department’s services each week. Officers and supervisors assigned to various divisions conduct each instructional block.

Topics;
The Milford Police Citizens Academy will cover topics such as;

- General Introduction
- Crime Prevention
- DWI Procedures
- Communications
- CPR
- Patrol Procedures
- Criminal & Drug Investigations
- Criminal Justice System
- Dare Program
- Firearm Safety Program
- Ride Along program

There will be sessions that will introduce the specialty units of the police department as well as a tour of our facility. Sessions will include both classroom and hands on training

Requirements to Apply;
Age: 21 years of age
Residence: Milford residents, tax payers or business owners
Citizenship: Must be US citizen
Qualification: Must be of good moral character. Be of good physical condition. Have not been convicted of a felony, class A or class B misdemeanor. You must pass a thorough background check.
The class will be limited to 25 students.
